In recent years, I have become active in the K.M. Foundation and Association. Though I have attended all of the reunions, I was never a student at the school.
My relationship with K.M. is through my parents, Mark H. Cardwell, who was a coach and teacher from 1925 to 1944 and my mother Jennie Williams Cardwell, class of 1940.
I am presently serving as President of the K.M. Foundation and I welcome the chance to be of benefit to our people and enjoy tremendously the opportunity to work with other Kelly Millerites.
Though both of my parents are deceased, I am sure each would be proud and supportive of my involvement.
Betty Cardwell Spencer

Foundation Update
The Kelly Miller Foundation, Inc. was formed in 1986 for the expressed purpose of providing scholarships to African-Americans residing in those counties which comprised the attendance area of Kelly Miller High School. The Foundation is a 501-C-3 Organization (I.R.S.), which means that contributions are deductible from gross income for income tax purposes.
Since our inception, we have provided 88 scholarshiops, the value of which was $66,500.00. There is no paid staff in any fund raising activity except for the golf tournament, which usually nets about $7,500.00. Several day workers are used for the tournament and their combined salaries are usually less than $300.00.
We have several fund raising activities, among which are hotdog sales, direct solicitation, (corporate and individual) golf tournament and raffle sales.
Sincerely,
James E. Williams
Kelly Miller Association President
