Dear Colleague:
Now that the snowfall is over, I know you’re thinking about golf in some form. You’re either wishing for the warmer days or making plans to head somewhere warm enough to play. Those thoughts made me think to send this reminder of our planned outing on July 16th when hopefully we will not worry about snow.
The community has been very generous to us in the past and I hope we can count on the same level of support this year. Most of us are affected in some form by the economic slowdown; philanthropy is recognizably an area that is often the first area hit. While making those decisions in the upcoming months, I would like you to remember the benefactors of our fund-raising efforts and the steps we are taking to make improvements in the hearts and minds of community members.
Unless you have attended one of our functions, the results of your contributions have been hidden; we do not spend dollars to advertise either our actions or the results. We were incorporated by the state of West Virginia in October of 1985, received IRS tax-exempt status in March of 1986 and granted our first scholarship on Au-gust 25, 1987. Since that time over 94% of received dollars have been spent on scholarships for post-secondary education; all managed by a completely volunteer staff. There has not been any hint of a scandal of any nature while providing 113 scholarships totaling $87,000. All but two of those recipients attended schools in West Virginia: one of those two attended a theological seminary in Pennsylvania and has since returned to Clarksburg to work; the other attended art school in Maryland, has his own art gallery near Washington DC and is a regular contributor to the Foundation.
Below, you will find a link to the flyer describing the date, time and location of our 2010 golf fundraiser; please give as generously as you can.
